Installment and Deposit Flows

Installments must clearly separate bank-absorbed flows from merchant-provided flows.

Flow Types

FlowPayment Behavior
One-offCustomer pays the full amount in one transaction
Deposit plus installment, bank absorbedCustomer pays deposit first, then bank handles installment externally
Deposit plus installment, merchant providedCustomer pays deposit first, then remaining balance is scheduled as merchant-managed payments
Full installment, bank absorbedCustomer completes bank installment in one transaction flow

Deposit First Rule

For deposit plus monthly flows, the first transaction should collect the deposit. The remaining balance should only become installment schedule after the deposit succeeds.

Failed Second Payment

If the second payment fails, the student should be able to log in and manage the outstanding payment from their account.

Finance should still see:

  • Original invoice
  • Deposit payment
  • Remaining scheduled payments
  • Failed payment attempt
  • Outstanding balance
  • Access or renewal status impact

Refundable Event Deposits

Some events require refundable deposits. These should be recorded separately from product purchase payments.

Refundable deposit records should capture:

  • Deposit amount
  • Currency
  • Refund policy
  • Refund deadline
  • Deposit status
  • Refund status
